1952 Diamond Jubilee Celebrations 2012


Planting Tree Monday February 6th – Planting of an Old English Oak tree, in the newly created Jubilee garden.
April – Creation of a raised flowerbed in front of the Iceland store
Arch May – Erection of an Arch from the Community Centre over the Rue Maze to Le Croix Guerin. The Arch was suitably decorated and incorporated the Union flag and the flags of Guernsey and St. Martin. This remained until August.

Book Cover May – 600 books ‘Queen Elizabeth II’ by John Malam were issued to the school children of St Martin.
Sunday June 3rd – A service of celebration was held at the Community Centre at 10:30am for all denominations and all ages and was followed by a glass of Pym’s and a slice of Jubilee cake. Service
Concert Monday June 4th – There was a concert in the Parish Hall at 7:00pm. This was aimed very much at the more mature members of the Parish, with refreshments being served during the interval. After the Concert, parishioners were invited to join the rest of the parishioners in the car park at Jerbourg Point where at 10.15pm a magnificent Jubilee Beacon was lit. With a clear night sky the Beacon would have been seen in all the other islands.

Tuesday June 5th – Despite the rain a Traditional Garden Party took place from 2:30pm on the lawns of Sausmarez Manor. The Guernsey Concert Band played and an afternoon tea supplied by a number of the Parish hotels and establishments was served. There were games and races for the children and the Manor train was running all afternoon, giving rides for free. There was a visit from the Bailiff during afternoon who also led three cheers to Her Majesty. During the evening there was a Barbecue for all the helpers and sponsors, without whom all our celebrations would not have been possible. Sausmarez Manor
Saturday November 17th Our final event of the year was a Jubilee Quiz for around 100 people, held at 7.00pm in the Parish hall and led by our resident quiz master Paul Steer
