Liberation Celebration Event

St Martins Shield

Throughout both lockdowns, the Constables and Douzaine have consistently operated in accordance with the laws and guidance given by the CCA.

When the Blueprint for the exit from the second lockdown was published, it was noted that large events would be able to go ahead from 30th April, and amongst other things, there would no longer be a requirement to have contact details for every person attending.

Consequently plans went ahead to hold our postponed 75th Liberation Celebration on Saturday 8th May, (now 75 + 1!) and details and a flyer were distributed at the end of March with the April/May edition of the Cloak magazine.

On the 1st of April we learned that the main events in town on Sunday 9th May had been cancelled, and small events in the parishes with friends, neighbours and relatives were recommended, with more information to be announced after Easter. When no further announcements were forthcoming, we tried contacting the relevant person(s) to establish if our event could go ahead.

Given that our event was to be held on 8th May, whilst other events are planned for 9th May, there were concerns that our event might attract large crowds. In light of the current situation we took the decision that regrettably we would postpone our event.

Having spent several years fundraising for this event we are disappointed but hope that circumstances will be favourable for us to hold a community event in late summer.
